Press Release
The Round Kurland Rally is an annual event with the accent on active riding of historic motorcycles in Kurland - the most picturesque part of Latvia. It consists of a Road Run and a Regularity Hill Climb as well as other activities as tested successfully in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
The next event will be held over the weekend of 14th – 16th July, 2006 and, as usual, it will be based at the Slokenbek estate - an ideal place providing food, overnight accomodation and shelter for machines and participants, all in neat and pleasant surroundings. For overnight security the machines will be guarded by the police.
The Rally is dedicated to the memory of Alexander Leutner – a Kurland born engineer of German descent. Leutner can be regarded as a true motorcycling and motoring pioneer and one of the first producers of motor vehicles in the territory of Latvia, once part of tsarist Russia.
The Rally participants will assemble at the Riga Motor Museum in the afternoon of 14th July, 2006 for an Afternoon Social Run to Slokenbeck near Tukums.
The Timed Road Run route will be changed for the next consecutive years, retaining Slokenbeck always as a base. The Regularity Hill Climb will traditionally remain a part of the Round Kurland Rally. This year the Hill Climb is planned for Friday afternoon. On Saturday there will be a Timed/Untimed Return Road Run to Kuldiga – an ancient Hanseatic League town, situated on the river Venta near the widest waterfall in Europe – the Ventas Rumba waterfall. After lunch, a walk in the ancient town and a visit to unique sand caves, the participants will be flagged off for a second part of the Road Run back to Tukums town.
Nearly 50 participants from 12 countries on 19 makes of machines attended the 2005 Round Kurland Rally.
Historic motorcycle enthusiasts from all over Europe are invited to attend this rally. Since Latvia joined the EEC in May, 2004 it has become so much easier to travel to Latvia!
